#BLFRemembersBiko: Biko Day on expropriated land

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the assassination of the father of the black consciousness philosophy in South Africa, Steve Bantu Biko. Black First Land First (BLF) is a black consciousness organization which is guided by the teachings of Steve Biko. Our movement has declared September #BikoMonth and we shall kickstart our #BikoMonth commemorations with a ceremony on the land BLF expropriated last Sunday in Ventersdorp, North West.

BLF will host the “Remember Biko – take back the land” event to honour the memory of Biko. The event shall be held on 12 September on the land which has been taken back by the community of Ventersdorp. BLF encourages production on the land and shall defend the land with the community. Land expropriation, which is wrongly called “land grabs”, is not a crime. The land belongs to the people and the land must be returned to the people.

A series of lectures around the country, given by BLF President, Comrade Andile Mngxitama, will follow the Ventersdorp event.

The following “Remember Biko – take back the land” lectures will be held in September:

1. 12 September – Ventersdorp, North West
2. 14 September – University of Limpopo, Polokwane
3. 16 September – Kimberley
4. 25 September – Durban
5. 26 September – Cape Town
6. 30 September – Ga-rankuwa
