The mining sector does not care for workers. The threat to retrench over 13 000 workers by Impala Platinum (Implats) is the best case for the nationalisation of mines to secure employement for our people. The retrenchment is nothing but part of chasing profits at the expense of workers and the greater good of society.
The mining sector is badly managed by over paid executives and managers. Currently, the sector is also a health hazard to workers and does not serve mining communities. The exploitative culture in the mining sector must end. For the mining sector to serve the people and respect the environment it must be pro-people and anti-capitalist.
BLF supports the call by AMCU for the nationalisation of mines which are planning to retrench workers. The nationalisation process must start with Implats.
