Black First Land First KwaZulu Natal (BLF-KZN) has learnt of the unfortunate shutting down of small businesses in the city of Durban and condemns this exercise by the eThekwini Municipality and Department of Economic Development and Tourism Affairs.
It cannot be that the two government institutions are swift to shutdown businesses of poor people trying to make ends but have not been able to assist small businesses with operating licenses. It is widely known that obtaining a business operating permit in Durban is extremely difficult.
Instead of targeting small businesses, majority of which are Black owned, the government should be targeting known drug havens and many big businesses with a known reputation of exploitation and flouting business and employment regulations in Durban.
We send this message to the KZN government: stop shutting down small businesses and assist them with proper business support or else you shall face the wrath of the movement of the people!
