BLF President Andile Mngxitama
The decision of the Pretoria High Court on Thursday to give non South Africans (asylum seekers and special permit holders from Angola, Lesotho and Zimbabwe) the Special Covid-19 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) Grant of R350 per month for six months, is insensitive and shall only fuel black on black violence on the poor.
Hungry and poor South Africans have been waiting for the promised SRD grant for over 80 days. While the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has denied the applications of millions of people, the Court has not only extended the R350 SRD Grant to non South Africans, it has also set a timeframe of five days for it to be processed.
The Court conducts itself in the same way as politicians who say nothing about the poor of South Africa. The impression created is that the goverment and the courts do not care about the plight of poor black South Africans – the poor are only good for votes.
Black First Land First (BLF) calls on the government and the judiciary to serve the poor of South Africa and stop treating them like unwanted children.
