Black First Land First (BLF) has been informed that right now in the Duduza settlement in Thembisa the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) is planning to execute another eviction of shack-dwellers. The EMPD has arrived and is preparing to demolish and burn the shacks of the people. It’s a cold day and people are going to be without a place to stay.
We call on everyone to ask the Ekurhuleni Mayor, Mzwandile Masina, to stop this illegal eviction in the name of Radical Economic Transformation (RET).
BLF shall today, in the event of this unlawful act occurring, open a criminal case against Masina as per ‘The Prevention of Illegal Eviction from and Unlawful Occupation of Land Act 19 of 1998’ (‘PIE’) and Covid-19 regulations.
Masina must stop the brutalization of the landless. He must stop acting like the Democratic Alliance (DA) in Cape town. The courts have ruled against illegal evictions.
