BLF-SM UKZN remembers Steve Biko

Black First Land First – Student Movement, University of KwaZulu Natal (BLF-SM UKZN) commences #BLFBikoWeek at Howard College with our weekly ‘Clean the Campus’ program – thus continuing our commitment in assisting our parents who work within this institution. We meet at the Shepstone foyer at 07:00am on Monday 11 September 2017.

BLF-SM is a Black Consciousness movement inspired by Steve Biko who was one of the founders of the South African Student Organisation (SASO), a movement characterized by its service within the black community.

Inspired by Steve Biko, a former UKZN medical school student, we as BLF-SM are committed to serving the black community both inside and outside the institution. To this end we are working to unite all black people so as to take back the land.

The #BLFBikoWeek will also include mobilization, conscientisation and recruitment drives as well as two Biko lectures.

In this regard the program at the UKZN Howard College and Westville Campus respectively is as follows:

BLF applauds BLF-SM on gaining recognition at UKZN, Westville campus

The Black First Land First Student Movement (BLF-SM) continues in its responsibility to build a student movement that takes the struggle for black liberation forward. Black First Land First (BLF) acknowledges and applauds the work done by its student movement in obtaining recognition from the “Recognition Appeals Committee” (RAC) of the Westville campus of the University of KwaZulu Natal (UKZN).

The process for gaining recognition was long and tedious. It was riddled with the typical political gamesmanship associated with new student movements gaining entry into the Student Representative Council (SRC) but the resilience of the BLF-SM leadership at Westville campus ensured success.

This recognition follows a successful #BlackWave at the UKZN – Howard College branch in the past week and just as we prepare for #BLFremembersBiko – a time of reflection and inspiration as we struggle to take back the land.

Free the mind, take the land!
