The death of eight farmworkers in Kakamas in the Northern Cape is directly caused by racist farmers. Black First Land First (BLF) is appalled by the casual manner in which these deaths are treated by the Minister of Employment & Labour, Mr. Thulas Nxesi. These deaths are a direct result of slave like conditions farm workers are subjected to in South African farms. They are overworked, underpaid, and suffer untold human rights abuses. Those racist farmers must be charged for murder.
BLF shall write to the South African Human Rights Commission for public hearings on the farmworkers’ living and working conditions on farms and the causes of the deaths of these farmworkers. The police must also account for their lack of action on these unecessary killings. Life is literally hell on earth for farmworkers in this country.
